Instructional Assistant | Frederick County Public Schools
The Tone:
This is a 10-month, non-exempt position at Frederick County Public Schools, located in Frederick, MD. The TL;DR
• Role: Instructional Assistant
• Type: 10-month position (190 days / year), 7 hours per day
• Location: In-person, Frederick, MD
• Pay: $20.03 per hour starting
• Team: Reports directly to one or more certified classroom teachers and/or school administrator(s)
• Mission: This role provides essential classroom and student support, assisting teachers with instructional and clerical tasks to maintain an effective learning environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instructional Support: Work with individual students and small groups under the supervision of a classroom teacher or administrator to facilitate learning.
• Classroom Operations: Perform daily classroom duties, including checking papers, monitoring student progress, collecting money, taking attendance, and correcting assignments.
• Student Supervision: Assist in supervising students during recreational, outdoor, and free-time activities, as well as on field trips, and monitor groups to free teachers for other duties.
• Administrative Assistance: Prepare and arrange materials for daily instruction and operate various office machines to complete clerical work, including some typing.
• Emergency Coverage: Substitute for teachers in emergency situations, ensuring continuous support for students and classroom activities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); for Title One Schools, a minimum of 48 college credits, an AA degree, or passing the ParaPro Assessment Test will be required.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to prioritize work assignments appropriately, efficiently complete tasks, seek out additional assignments, and maintain a consistent attendance pattern.
• Skills: Clear and concise communication in both oral and written form, a working knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics, the ability to utilize various computer programs, and the capacity to maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Bonus: Familiarity with the Frederick County Public Schools policies, goals, and programs.
