Chief Risk Officer | Mashreq

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mashreq, located in India. Mashreq is a leading financial institution, offering a comprehensive suite of banking and financial services. This pivotal role is critical in safeguarding the bank’s stability and growth by establishing a robust risk management framework across all country operations. The Chief Risk Officer will ensure strict adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies, while strategically supporting the bank’s business objectives.

• Mission: Lead the country-level Risk Management function, overseeing all risk classes to ensure compliance and support strategic objectives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership: Lead and build a strong country-level Risk Management function, overseeing all risk classes and ensuring compliance with local regulations and Group standards.
• Governance: Establish effective governance frameworks and provide comprehensive risk management support across all business units.
• Risk Management: Oversee and manage Credit, Operational, Market, and Liquidity Risk, including developing models, setting policies, and monitoring limits.
• Compliance: Manage and monitor local regulatory requirements such as Single & Group Borrower norms, Sectoral limits, and PSL.
• ESG: Act as the focal point of coordination and liaison for country-level ESG related matters.

The Must-Haves
• Background: University Graduate with Masters Qualifications and a professional qualification in business, commerce, economics, or law.
• Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of credit experience at a similar level in banking across three geographies, with a proven decision-making track record under pressing conditions.
• Skills: High degree of credit skills (analytical, judgmental), sound knowledge of local banking law, products, and services (international payment, trade finance, treasury, corporate banking), expert quantitative and financial techniques, and excellent verbal and written English communication and negotiation skills.
• Bonus: Experience as a team player, with participation in various banking initiatives and solutions.
