Job Description
Grocery Team Member – Whole Foods Market
As a member of the Grocery team at Whole Foods Market, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and maintaining the quality and presentation of our grocery products. This entry-level position involves a variety of tasks, from receiving and stocking products to ensuring a clean and appealing shopping environment. You’ll be a vital part of a team dedicated to WFM standards and core values, promoting a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient service.
Job Responsibilities
- Product Management & Display:
- Ensure a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked.
- Perform front-facing of products, check codes, rotate stock, and remove out-of-date items.
- Stock and clean grocery shelves, bulk bins, frozen, and dairy cases.
- Monitor and prevent spoilage, communicating waste effectively to buyers, Team Leaders, and shift supervisors.
- Maintain back stock in good order.
- Assist with the sampling program, ensuring sample areas are full, clean, and appealing.
- Complete required worksheets for spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweeps.
- Assist with periodic inventory checks.
- Customer Service & Sales:
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner.
- Model suggestive selling techniques.
- Answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.
- Operational Compliance & Safety:
- Arrive at the workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
- Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, including equipment, in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing.
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.
Job Skills
- Ability to sell proactively.
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried in the department.
- Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.
- Proactively read labels and familiarize oneself with various products.
- Ability to perform simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions.

Experience
- No prior retail experience required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
Compensation & Benefits
The wage range for this position is $19.00-$25.40 Hourly, commensurate with experience.
