Job Summary

The Graduate Nurse works under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing essential nursing care, including administering medications and treatments, to patients in a timely and professional manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides direct patient care, ensuring patient comfort and well-being.
  • Administers medications (including PO, IM, and IV PB) safely and promptly, accurately documenting all administrations.
  • Responsible for the safe-guarding of medications and narcotics.
  • Initiates and assists with the maintenance of IVs.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all patient care provided.
  • Assists with patient education, collaborating effectively with other disciplines.
  • Contributes to unit cleanliness and organization.
  • Assists with both admission and discharge assessments for patients.
  • Upholds patient privacy and rights, respecting the values of individual patients and adapting care accordingly.
  • Takes assigned responsibility for providing care for a specific group of patients, strictly adhering to the care plan established by the Registered Nurse.
  • Reports observations and pertinent patient information promptly to the Registered Nurse, fostering close and harmonious teamwork.
  • Assists in orienting new employees to the unit and hospital procedures.
  • Administers nursing care safely and promptly, in full compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Completes all required annual competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
  • Complies with all Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and the Personnel Employee Handbook.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to cross-train to other units as needed.
  • Exhibits excellence in customer service skills, fostering a positive environment for patients and colleagues.
  • Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, actively participating in unit meetings.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, including serving on quality improvement teams.
