Graduate Intern for Women’s Soccer/Equipment Coordinator

The Graduate Intern for Women’s Soccer/Equipment Coordinator is a 10-month, 35-hour/week position designed to provide comprehensive support to both the Women’s Soccer Program and the wider Department of Athletics. This role offers a unique opportunity for a graduate student to gain hands-on experience in collegiate athletics, encompassing coaching, administration, and equipment management.

The successful candidate will be a vital part of the athletic department, contributing to various facets of program operations while adhering to NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Functions

I. Coaching and Program Support (Women’s Soccer)

  • Program Administration: Assist the Head Coach with the overall organization and administration of the women’s soccer competitive program. This includes ensuring attendance at all practices, games, and official team events throughout the academic year.
  • Recruitment: Actively assist the Head Coach in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, contributing to the identification and engagement of future team members.
  • Video Operations: Provide support with video editing and exchange needs, utilizing technology to enhance scouting, player development, and game analysis.
  • Fundraising & Community Engagement: Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program to secure necessary funds for non-budgeted expenses and training trips. Organize and facilitate community service projects for team members, aligning with the missions of the NCAA, the Regis Athletic Department, and Regis College.
  • Academic & Student Development: Assist in the implementation and supervision of team-specific academic enrichment programming to support student-athlete success. Provide counseling and mentorship to students as needed, fostering their holistic development.
  • Compliance: Maintain a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations governing collegiate soccer at the NCAA Division III level, and adhere strictly to the standards established by Regis College, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
  • Departmental Participation: Participate in Athletic Department staff meetings, functions, and undertake other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletics administration.

II. Department of Athletics Responsibilities (Equipment Coordination)

  • Equipment Staff Membership: Serve as an integral member of the Athletics equipment staff, reporting directly to the Equipment Manager.
  • Student Supervision: Supervise undergraduate work-study students assigned to the equipment staff, providing guidance and direction in their duties.
  • Inventory & Maintenance: Perform regular inventory of equipment for all Regis Athletics programs. Oversee laundry operations and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laundry room.
  • Gear Management: Assist in ordering equipment and coordinating the distribution (“turn out”) and collection (“return”) of official team gear for all athletic programs.
  • On-Call Rotation: Serve as a member of the intern on-call (IOC) rotation, responding to essential needs in the event of a college closure.

III. Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position may involve providing support and supervision to undergraduate work-study students, particularly within the equipment management function.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Applicants must be admitted to one of Regis College’s eligible graduate programs.
  • Experience: Prior successful playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred. Significant successful high school or club experience will also be considered.

  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to problem-solve, prioritize tasks, and complete multiple responsibilities within established deadlines, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Certifications: Appropriate certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED are required within an appropriate time of hire and must be completed (per NCAA regulations) before the beginning of the competitive season.
  • Licensure: Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Salary & Benefits

This 10-month position offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support a graduate student’s academic and professional development:

  • Stipend: $4,000 stipend for the 10-month duration.
  • Housing & Meals: Free room and a full meal plan during the 10-month duration. Supplemental meal stipends may be provided for summer and winter breaks based on work schedule and internship start/end dates.
  • Tuition Remission: Tuition remission for two (2) eligible Regis graduate courses per semester, with a maximum of six graduate courses (18 credits) per academic year.
  • Eligible Campus-Based Programs for Tuition Remission:
    • 60 credits of MA in Counseling (Note: 24 credits are not covered by tuition remission; the supervised field experience must be completed after the graduate intern role is complete.)
    • 33 credits of MS in Regulatory and Clinical Research Management
    • 30 credits of MS in Digital Marketing and Communications
    • 36 credits of Accelerated MBA program
  • Eligible Fully Online Programs for Tuition Remission (on a space-available basis):
    • 33 credits of MS in Health Administration
    • 42 credits of Master of Public Health (Note: 6 credits are not covered by tuition remission)
    • 30 credits of Master of Social Work
  • Ineligible Programs for Tuition Remission: Courses in Graduate Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech Language Pathology, and Doctor of Education programs are not eligible.
  • Professional Development: Access to training and professional development opportunities.
  • Schedule: Flexible work schedule.

Note: This is a 10-month position, with the opportunity to continue for one additional 10-month term (maximum of 2 academic years).

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Environment: Conditions include a normal office environment, generally not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, or odors.
  • Physical Demands: May spend extended periods at a computer terminal, on the telephone, or operating other office machines, which requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Some evening and weekend work is to be expected, particularly during the competitive season and for athletic events.
