Qualifications
Required
- Must apply and be accepted into one of many graduate programs at Sul Ross State University.
- Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology or physical education, or an applicable degree.
- Previous collegiate basketball experience (either playing or coaching).
- Proficiency with standard office machines and computer skills.
Preferred
- Collegiate Level Coaching and/or Playing Experience.
- Personnel Management & Supervision experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Primary Responsibilities
Summary Function: Provide assistance to all aspects of the men’s basketball program at Sul Ross State University to ensure a competitive and successful program, adhering to all NCAA Division III, Lonestar Conference, and university rules and regulations.
Scope: Coordinate with the coaching staff on all aspects associated with running a competitive NCAA Division III basketball program.
Duties:
- Ability to balance graduate coursework and basketball duties effectively.
- Assist coaching staff with on-court practice duties.
- Ability to assist student-athletes with on-court workouts, rebounding, and chalk talk sessions.
- Assist coaching staff in monitoring student-athletes’ academic performance, with a strong emphasis on graduation rates and academic progress.
- Monitor all workouts to ensure student-athlete safety.
- Be knowledgeable of, and abide by, all university, NCAA Division III, and conference policies.
- Assist in recruiting and retaining high-quality student-athletes.
- Correspond with prospective student-athletes using a variety of communication channels, including written correspondence, in-person contact, phone calls, and visits.
- Support student-athlete academic and athletic excellence, leadership development, team development, and community service initiatives.
- Ability to assist coaching staff with day-to-day operations of the program.
- Ability to be flexible and work long hours, including nights and weekends.
- Order and maintain all necessary equipment for the basketball program.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite, Synergy, Hudl, and other relevant software.
- Stay current with developments and best practices in the basketball profession.
- Maintain strict NCAA Compliance in all activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

- Clear knowledge of the sport of basketball; ability to contribute to the development of a competitive program.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, student-athletes, and alumni.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong recruiting and coaching skills.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff, administration, and the community.
- Proficient with technological recruiting and coaching tools.
- Clear understanding of, and commitment to, the NCAA Division III Philosophy as well as NCAA, Lonestar Conference, and departmental rules and regulations.

Received: Head Men’s Basketball Coach
Working Conditions: Nights and weekends are regularly required. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. This position is security sensitive.
