Global Government Affairs Intern | Walmart
The Tone:
This is an internship at Walmart, located in Washington, DC. Walmart is a global retail leader with a vast international presence. This role within the Global Government Affairs team is crucial for strengthening the company’s ability to operate worldwide. The intern will contribute to driving growth, leading change, and managing risk in the global policy arena, ultimately protecting and enhancing Walmart’s reputation across its markets.

• Team: Global Government Affairs team covering international policy areas including Canada, Latin America, Africa, Europe, Asia, trade, human rights, and sustainable supply chains.
• Mission: Support the Global Government Affairs team in strengthening Walmart’s license to operate by managing risk and driving growth in the global policy arena.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AI tools
What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy Development: Draft country-specific strategy documents, memos, and reports for various global regions.
• Advocacy Support: Assist with logistics and identify opportunities for international advocacy forums.
• Policy Monitoring: Monitor political risks and pinpoint opportunities for Walmart to influence international and U.S. positioning on ongoing developments.
• Executive Reporting: Provide diverse written reporting to Walmart executives on global government affairs matters.
• Research Contribution: Contribute research and provide feedback on white papers related to international policy and business issues.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Master’s candidate preferred, building upon a Bachelor’s degree in social science, international relations, or business.
• Experience: Relevant globally-oriented work experience in business or international relations within the private sector, government, NGOs, or trade associations.
• Skills: Possess strong research, analytical, and written communication capabilities.
• Bonus: Fluency in one or more relevant languages is highly desired.
