Job Purpose and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the GIS and Asset Management Intern position is to provide valuable experience working with spatial data and infrastructure asset information. This data is crucial for supporting municipal operations and planning within the Town of Clayton. The intern will collaborate closely with Public Services leadership and technical staff to enhance the quality and usability of asset data, which is vital for maintenance, capital planning, and effective service delivery.
This internship offers significant exposure to the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), asset management systems, and operational workflows. These systems are used to manage diverse municipal infrastructure, including water, wastewater, electric, streets, and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with mapping and reviewing infrastructure asset data within GIS platforms.
- Support the validation and cleanup of asset records associated with operational systems.
- Assist with developing maps and visualizations that support operational planning and analysis.
- Conduct research and data analysis related to infrastructure assets and maintenance activities.
- Assist with improving spatial data quality and documentation standards.
- Support staff in producing GIS products used for planning, reporting, and decision-making.
- Perform other duties as assigned that pertain to GIS and asset management.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities/Competencies
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software such as ArcGIS or similar tools.
- Basic understanding of spatial data and mapping concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Ability to communicate technical information through maps, visuals, or reports.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
College student or recent graduate.

Coursework or experience with GIS software and spatial analysis preferred.
Necessary Special Qualifications/Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older by the internship start date.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be flexible with scheduling requirements.

When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
