General Manager in Training | American Residential Services
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at American Residential Services, located in the United States with required travel during training and relocation afterward. American Residential Services, also known as ARS-Rescue Rooter, provides HVAC and plumbing services across various regions. This structured development program is designed to prepare high-potential leaders to assume full operational responsibility for an ARS service center, making it a critical step for growth within the organization. The role is particularly well-suited for transitioning military members who have demonstrated strong leadership and operational expertise.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership: Assume full operational responsibility for profit-and-loss activities and overall management of an ARS service center.
• Culture Building: Establish a strong team culture, holding employees accountable to high standards of performance, safety, and customer satisfaction.
• Talent Development: Recruit, select, train, coach, and develop service center employees to build leadership capability.
• Strategic Planning: Prepare business forecasts, budgets, operational plans, and performance reports to meet or exceed revenue, profitability, and customer-experience goals.
• Performance Management: Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, taking timely corrective action when performance is not aligned with business objectives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Significant experience leading teams in mission-focused environments, coupled with a proven record of successfully managing people, resources, operations, or complex programs.
• Experience: Willingness to travel extensively during the training program and relocate within one of the assigned ARS regions (Midwest, Texas, West, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast) after training.
• Skills: The ability to establish priorities, develop plans, and execute against measurable objectives; strong leadership presence and the ability to build cohesive, accountable teams; financial, analytical, or resource-management experience, including interpreting performance data and taking corrective action; strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with computers and common business software, including Microsoft applications.
• Bonus: Leadership experience as a commissioned officer, noncommissioned officer, senior enlisted leader, warrant officer, or military program manager; experience managing operations, logistics, maintenance, transportation, facilities, recruiting, training, or service delivery; experience in a business-to-consumer, business-to-business, home services, skilled trades, retail, logistics, or field-service organization; a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of military experience, civilian experience, education, and professional training.
