The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Emerson, located in St. Louis, Missouri. Emerson is a global leader in automation technology and software, helping customers in critical industries like life sciences, energy, power and renewables, chemical, and advanced factory automation operate more sustainably while improving productivity, energy security, and reliability. This role provides an exciting opportunity to perform financial audits and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX 404) control reviews, contributing to the integrity of business unit financial statements and controls. Interns are supported with mentorship and meaningful work, serving as a key talent pipeline for full-time employment opportunities upon graduation.

The TL;DR

• Team: Part of an audit team under the supervision of an Audit Senior
• Mission: To ensure business unit financial statements and controls are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and corporate policies and procedures.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Power Bi

What You’ll Actually Do
• Audit: Perform financial audits and SOX 404 control reviews using a risk-based, process-focused approach that encompasses business strategy analysis.
• Report: Report on control deficiencies to management and make recommendations to mitigate risk and add value.
• Challenge: Challenge current processes across the company and identify opportunities for refinement.
• Communicate: Communicate with a variety of stakeholders across the company, including teams in other business units and senior management.
• Travel: Travel approximately 15-25% within the United States and potentially internationally for audit engagements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Business-related field, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of these fields required upon graduation.
• Experience: Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer term (late-May to mid-August).
• Skills: Attention to detail, strong organization and time-keeping skills, ability to assess and evaluate risk, problem-solving skills, ability to maintain composure under pressure with tight deadlines, objective thinking, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Upon graduation, eligibility to sit for the CPA or CIA exam, and experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Bi.
