About The Role: General Ledger Specialist – Level I
The General Ledger Specialist – Level I plays a pivotal role in upholding the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records. This position is central to the financial operations, involving the meticulous recording, thorough reconciliation, and insightful analysis of general ledger accounts to ensure strict compliance with established accounting standards and company policies.
The specialist will provide crucial support during both month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of essential journal entries and assisting with comprehensive account reconciliations. Collaboration with various departments is key to resolving discrepancies and providing precise financial data that underpins informed decision-making across the company. Ultimately, this role is instrumental in guaranteeing that the financial statements accurately reflect a true and fair view of the company’s financial position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and general ledger processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software or ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Experience with general ledger accounting in a corporate or service industry environment.
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
- Prior experience supporting audit processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the general ledger by recording all financial transactions accurately and timely.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, adjustments, and corrections.
- Perform monthly account reconciliations to verify the accuracy of ledger balances.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes by compiling necessary documentation and schedules.
- Collaborate with internal teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies or variances in financial data.
- Support audit activities by providing requested documentation and explanations related to general ledger accounts.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills
The required skills, such as exceptional attention to detail and robust proficiency in Excel, are indispensable for accurately recording and reconciling financial transactions on a daily basis. Strong communication skills are vital, enabling the specialist to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and adeptly clarify financial discrepancies. Familiarity with accounting software allows for the efficient management of ledger entries and supports timely month-end closings.
Preferred skills, including a solid knowledge of GAAP and hands-on experience with ERP systems, significantly enhance the specialist’s ability to ensure regulatory compliance and streamline accounting processes.
