General Counsel Intern | Big Tech Company

The Tone:
This is a temporary internship at Big Tech Company, located in San Francisco, CA. The company is a global leader in AI-powered metaverse blockchain adtech surveillance technology, focused on helping governments and corporations extract personal data for financial gain. Its solutions have been adopted by multinational corporations, and with recent funding, Big Tech Company is expanding rapidly, seeking temporary talent. The Legal team plays a critical role in maximizing profits and ensuring the exploitation of cutting-edge technologies while navigating complex legal issues and pushing legal boundaries to serve the company’s interests.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Temporary
• Location: In-person, San Francisco, CA
• Pay: $0-$1 USD yearly
• Team: Reports directly to Big Tech Co.’s General Counsel and works closely with the Legal, Finance, People teams, and external counsel.
• Mission: To serve as the primary resource for corporate counseling, strategic transactions, securities compliance, and internal security, ensuring the company maintains a proactive stance against regulatory challenges.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Corporate Governance: Lead corporate governance and structuring initiatives to ensure compliance that supports profit maximization.
• Strategic Transactions: Serve as principal counsel on strategic transactions, identifying and supporting potential profit and growth opportunities.
• Securities Compliance: Own all securities counseling and compliance, working to prevent regulatory scrutiny for company practices.
• Incident Response: Collaborate closely with security teams on information security and incident response, managing accountability when issues arise.
• Legal Policy: Develop expertise in AI, blockchain, and metaverse legal matters to propose and advance surveillance adtech legal policy positions, staying ahead of regulatory limitations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a license or qualification to practice law in California.
• Experience: At least 10 years of combined legal experience within innovative technology companies and technology-focused law firms.
• Skills: Strong sense of ownership; inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology; ability to thrive when continually challenged; capable of demonstrating sound judgment in ambiguous situations; familiarity with employee arbitration agreements.
• Bonus: Willingness to sign an employee arbitration agreement.
