Gas & Power Accountant | Oxy

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Oxy, located in Houston, TX. Oxy produces, markets, and transports oil and natural gas, providing resources fundamental to life, and is a global leader in carbon management, advancing lower-carbon technologies. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate and timely financial settlements of gas and power transactions, directly contributing to the company’s financial integrity and operational efficiency within the marketing accounting team.

• Team: Reports to the Marketing Accounting Supervisor.
• Mission: Ensure pipeline and power payments and gas and power settlements invoicing are sent out per contract, and that funds are sent and/or received timely and accurately.
• Tech Stack: Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconciliation: Confirm monthly AR/AP invoices with third-party customers and/or vendors, actively resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Settlements: Ensure all counterparty settlements are accurately reconciled to the trading system and processed for payment on time.
• Month-End Close: Perform necessary month-end closing procedures and submit all required reports on time, adhering to the department calendar and schedule.
• Variance Analysis: Analyze trading activity thoroughly to explain variances observed between the current month, prior month, and established forecasts.
• Journal Entries: Prepare recurring, standard, and adjusting journal entries in strict accordance with GAAP guidelines.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or a minimum of 21 hours of accounting coursework with a business degree.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are strictly required; however, candidates must demonstrate working proficiency and knowledge in Excel, including mining and manipulating data.
• Skills: Exceptional analytical and organizational skills; strong ability in managing and processing large quantities of data; fundamental accounting skills including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
• Bonus: SAP software application experience; experience working in a trading system (Horizon and OATI experience a plus); knowledge of gas and power settlements; 2+ years of Energy Marketing industry experience; accounting experience in Energy Supply & Marketing.
