2027 Engineering G Future, Jackson, Michigan | Gerdau North America

The Tone:
This is an early career leadership development role at Gerdau North America, located in Jackson, Michigan. Gerdau is a major steel manufacturing company, operating in 7 countries and employing over 30,000 individuals, specializing in long and special steel products for various markets. The North American divisions, with ten mills in the U.S. and three in Canada, utilize efficient electric arc furnace (EAF) technology for green steel production. This G.Future program is designed to invest in entry-level talent, developing future managerial and technical leaders to shape the company’s next generation.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To develop future managerial and technical leaders for Gerdau through an intensive 12-month program combining on-the-job learning, classroom training, coaching, and mentorship.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Problem Solving: Lead initiatives to solve large- and small-scale problems, including creating mechanical components and assembly drawings.
• Process Optimization: Propose business methods to optimize product output and redirect process prioritization to improve current production standards.
• Strategic Leadership: Manage the strategic implementation for overall business goals as a leader within the organization.
• Business Immersion: Gain in-depth knowledge of the business from beginning to end by visiting customers and suppliers.
• Collaborative Development: Interact with other G.Futures participants across North America while working with all levels of Gerdau to tackle organizational challenges and develop managerial, interpersonal, analytical, and technical skills.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, Material Sciences/Metallurgy, or another applicable field, received within the past three years or expected by Summer 2024, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment.
• Experience: A maximum of three years of full-time work experience, including the ability to travel to various locations within the United States and Canada during the program.

• Process Optimization: Ability to propose methods for optimizing product output and refining production standards.
• Learning Agility: High capacity to adapt, continuously learn, and develop.
• Foundational Engineering: Solid understanding of core engineering principles relevant to steel manufacturing.
• Bonus:
• Academic Excellence: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Practical Experience: Degree-related internship experience.
• Leadership Acumen: Demonstrated leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular activities.
