The Tone:
This is a full-time role at a San Francisco-based private investment firm, located in San Francisco, CA. The firm builds a diversified portfolio of private market investments, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, private credit, and other alternative investments. They achieve this by partnering with established investment managers and selectively pursuing co-investment opportunities. This Fund Accountant role is central to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the firm’s investment operations. The position makes a meaningful impact within a small, close-knit, and highly collaborative team, where employees are encouraged to take ownership and contribute ideas. It requires an individual comfortable wearing multiple hats, working independently, and taking initiative, while also knowing when to ask questions and collaborate with the broader team.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Transaction Processing: Process and record a high volume of capital call and distribution notices, ensuring transactions are accurately captured and properly reflected in the accounting records.
• Record Keeping & Reconciliation: Maintain and reconcile fund accounting records, ensuring financial data is accurate, complete, and up to date, and calculate quarterly management fees and legal expenses across the firm’s investment funds.
• Financial Closing & Reporting: Support the quarterly fund close process by reviewing, reconciling, and finalizing general ledgers for all funds, and prepare quarterly capital account statements for limited and general partners.
• Audit & Financial Statement Support: Support the annual audit process by gathering requested documentation and preparing schedules, and assist with the preparation and review of annual financial statements.
• Collaboration & Special Projects: Partner with internal team members and external service providers to resolve accounting questions and ensure timely completion of reporting deliverables, while also taking on additional accounting and operational projects as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. This early career role requires a strong understanding of fund accounting concepts and financial reporting principles.
• Experience: 1-2+ years of experience in public accounting.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with high volumes of data and transactions. Comfort working independently and taking ownership in a small-team environment, coupled with strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities. A collaborative, hands-on approach with a willingness to wear multiple hats and contribute wherever needed. Strong Excel skills and excellent communication skills are also required.
• Bonus: CPA or actively working towards CPA certification.
