About the Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group:
The CSN Group at AARP encompasses Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach, and Advocacy at federal, state, and local levels. This group is instrumental in fulfilling AARP’s social mission by educating and engaging people 50-plus and their families, strengthening communities, and championing issues that contribute to financial and health security.

The Opportunity: Fraud Watch Network Internship
Join AARP’s impactful Fraud Watch Network social mission program as an intern. This unique opportunity will place you directly within the fraud prevention team, where you will gain valuable knowledge and practical experience in protecting individuals from the pervasive issue of fraud. This internship is designed to be a significant learning experience, challenging you to think critically about scam-related issues and their impact on affected individuals.

We encourage applications from students across all majors, including but not limited to social work, sociology, communications, and cybersecurity. This is a fully remote, paid internship, anticipated to commence in Spring 2026 and can extend through the end of the year, with potential for further extension. This position can be performed from anywhere within the United States and its territories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Curation: Meticulously review consumer submissions to AARP’s scam-tracking map, determining which submissions meet criteria for publication.
  • Information Management: Manage a dedicated email account, processing fraud alerts received from attorneys general, law enforcement, and federal agencies for inclusion on the scam-tracking map.
  • Project Leadership & Support: Lead and provide comprehensive support for a diverse range of fraud-related projects, presentations, and research initiatives.
  • Meeting Participation & Documentation: Attend and thoroughly document regular team and matrix meetings, as well as relevant external events (both in-person and hybrid), ensuring accurate records of discussions.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Actively support AARP’s “digital fraud fighter” volunteers by attending and assisting with monthly videoconferences and providing additional program assistance as needed.
  • Social Media Support: Provide essential support for AARP’s social media channels, contributing to fraud prevention outreach efforts.
  • Internal Resource Maintenance: Maintain and update the internal SharePoint page, ensuring resources are current and accessible.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Academic Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university (rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students) and maintain academic enrollment throughout the internship, OR must have previously graduated and be enrolled in a continuing education program.
  • Self-Starter & Adaptable: Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter with strong adaptability to new challenges and environments.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities.
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Ability to work respectfully and effectively with diverse populations, including varied gender, race, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Zoom.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills (A Plus):

  • Social Media Knowledge: Familiarity with and knowledge of multiple social media platforms.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly Wage:
    • Undergraduates: $18 per hour
    • Graduate Students: $21 per hour
    • Ph.D. Candidates: $28 per hour
  • Benefit Eligibility: Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
