Job Description
Founder’s Associate (Ops Generalist) | Truss
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Truss, located remotely within the US, with Austin preferred and an SF office available. Truss is a ~dozen-person YC fintech building banking and payments for construction, moving real money. This role is critical for making hard, ambiguous work disappear, supporting the founder and Head of Ops by shipping work that matters from week one in a do-er capacity. You are expected to operate with high agency and thrive in chaos.
The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Remote (US), Austin, TX / San Francisco, CA
• Pay: $70000–$90000 yearly
• Team: Sits close to the founder and operating core, multiplying the founder and Head of Operations.
• Mission: To make hard, ambiguous work disappear, driving tasks to completion and leaving systems better than found.
• Tech Stack: Google Workspace, Notion/Linear-class tools, spreadsheets, modern AI tools daily
What You’ll Actually Do
• Owner: Pick up important tasks with no obvious owner, tracking, chasing, deciding, and closing them to ensure partnerships and tickets don’t stall.
• Multiplier: Transform vague requests from the founder and Head of Ops into finished research, memos, trackers, checklists, and outreach, anticipating next steps.
• Operator: Execute core company operations such as vendor follow-through, customer or partner administration, internal tooling hygiene, and light support for finance/people/ops.
• Builder: Create systems from scratch, progressing from spreadsheets to lightweight tools that the team can operate reliably without constant heroic effort.
• Analyst: Rigorously examine numbers for funnel leaks, vendor costs, and problem diagnosis, and clearly communicate findings in competitive notes and internal briefs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Core understanding of operating in a regulated fintech environment and comfort with detailed, consequential work.
• Experience: 0–2 years. Demonstrated ownership and ability to deliver outcomes in campus organizations, startups, research projects, side businesses, military, family business, or competitive teams. Proven ability to context-switch across multiple workstreams with incomplete information and shifting priorities.
• Skills: Strong written communication (short, specific, no fluff), comfortable with ambiguity, tooling fluency (Google Workspace, Notion/Linear-class tools, spreadsheets, modern AI tools), bias towards building reliable systems, and discretion with sensitive information.
• Bonus: Experience at an early-stage startup, as a founder/co-founder or “do everything” early hire, exposure to construction/fintech/payments/SMB domains, quantitative coursework, or using AI to build small internal tools/automations.
