Accountant – Fixed Assets | Michaels Stores

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Michaels Stores, located in Irving, TX at the Support Center. Michaels Stores is the leading destination for creating and celebrating in North America, operating over 1,300 stores and online, and also owns Artistree. This role is crucial for ensuring the data integrity of the fixed asset sub-ledger, preparing essential financial work papers, and maintaining compliance with existing controls, policies, procedures, and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.

• Mission: Ensures the data integrity of the fixed asset sub-ledger, accurate financial statements, and sustained Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Tech Stack: Oracle Projects module, Oracle Fixed Asset Module, Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Capitalization: Collaborate with contacts in the IT group to accurately capitalize project expenditures upon their completion.
• Financial Analysis: Reconcile and analyze various Capital Projects, actively researching and resolving discrepancies.
• Reporting & Schedules: Prepare analytical work papers, including Corporate Tax schedules, audit schedules, monthly variance schedules, and roll-forwards.
• Asset Management: Perform analysis on the asset base and coordinate with business partners on the transfer or retirement of assets.
• Journal Entries & Reconciliations: Perform monthly journal entries, including accruals, re-classes, and adjustments, and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting with an entry-level career stage.
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of accounting experience, including exposure to U.S. GAAP and SOX.
• Skills: Proficient in Excel.
• Bonus: Master of Accountancy, CPA or CMA, and experience with Oracle Financials or other large ERP systems.
