First Grade Teacher | USD 259

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at USD 259, a dedicated school district located in Wichita, KS. As a First Grade Teacher, you will play a crucial role in the foundational education of young students, teaching and facilitating learning while maintaining their academic progress and discipline. This position is central to providing comprehensive classroom education that meets the individual needs of all students, working collaboratively with both students and parents. You will be responsible for upholding the school district’s policies and contributing to a supportive educational environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Educate: Provide direct instruction and facilitate student learning, employing current best practices and effective strategies across all courses of study for first-grade students.
• Plan: Develop and implement comprehensive, effective lesson plans that guide daily instruction, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicating these objectives appropriately.
• Assess: Administer a variety of assessments to thoroughly evaluate student progress, meticulously record results, and regularly inform parents/guardians of their child’s academic standing and development.
• Nurture: Cultivate and maintain a disciplined, safe, and stimulating classroom environment that is conducive to learning, promoting positive student behavior and engagement.
• Collaborate: Actively communicate with parents/guardians, schedule periodic meetings to discuss student progress or concerns, and work closely with colleagues, including Special Education or ESOL teachers, to ensure all appropriate modifications are effectively implemented.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree coupled with a valid Kansas State teaching license in Elementary Education (K-9, K-6, or K-6 Unified) or Early Childhood Unified (for K-3 classes only). Demonstrated understanding of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and relevant federal and state education laws.
• Experience: No specific years of prior teaching experience are required, though familiarity with classroom management for 20-25 students and using a student information system is expected.
• Skills: Exceptional organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction with students, parents, and staff; proven patience and ability to work interactively with young students, understanding and adapting to their individual needs; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and dedicated student information systems; and a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Bonus: Classroom teaching experience is preferred.
