Financial Systems Intern | EG America

The Tone:
This is an internship at EG America, located in Westborough, MA. EG America is a leading and rapidly expanding convenience store retailer committed to becoming America’s number one ‘one-stop’ destination, offering excellent fuel, grocery, merchandise, and food service across over 1,500 locations. This role is for an intern curious about solving complex business challenges and eager for cross-functional collaboration. The intern will gain exposure to how financial data flows across systems and how technology supports accounting, reporting, and compliance processes within a corporate environment.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Monday – Friday 8 hour day in office setting
• Location: Westborough, MA
• Pay: $20–$22.5 hourly
• Team: Financial Systems Team; reports to a supervisor within the team
• Mission: Support the Financial Systems team in maintaining, analyzing, and enhancing enterprise finance applications and related reporting processes.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, GL, reporting, planning, or reconciliation tools, SQL (introductory exposure)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide System Support: Assist with day-to-day support of financial systems (e.g., GL, reporting, planning, or reconciliation tools) by following established processes and escalation procedures.
• Support System Testing: Aid in system testing activities for enhancements, patches, or configuration changes, including executing test scripts, validating results, and documenting findings.
• Ensure Data Integrity: Perform data validation and reconciliations between source systems and downstream reports to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
• Develop Documentation: Create and maintain system documentation, such as process flows, user guides, and control narratives, with meticulous attention to detail and audit readiness.
• Generate Reports: Assist with recurring and ad-hoc financial reporting by extracting, organizing, and analyzing data using Excel and other approved tools.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Management Information Systems, or a related field. Must be a rising Sophomore or Junior with strong academic performance, and relevant coursework in Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Information Systems, or Data Analytics.
• Experience: Demonstrated analytical experience through coursework, case competitions, or structured academic programs. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required.
• Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain findings clearly, high attention to detail and comfort working with financial data, ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and follow defined processes, collaborative mindset, and curiosity with a willingness to learn complex systems and workflows.
• Bonus: Dual concentration or coursework in Finance and Management Information Systems; Exposure to financial modeling, systems analysis, or database concepts; Exposure to financial systems, data analysis, or finance-related technology through internships, case competitions, or academic programs; Experience using data models or structured datasets; Introductory experience with SQL or similar languages.
