Financial Reporting Analyst | Horizon Bank

This is a corporate role for a Financial Reporting Analyst at Horizon Bank, located in Michigan City, IN, US. • Mission: To support the accurate preparation of external financial and regulatory reports and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Actually Do
External Reporting: Prepare components of quarterly and annual external financial reports, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.
Regulatory Reporting: Support the preparation and review of key regulatory reports, such as Call Reports and FR reports.
Accounting Research: Assist with research related to new accounting standards and prepare draft technical accounting memoranda.
Internal Controls: Support documentation and testing related to internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Gather, validate, and analyze financial data by collaborating with cross-functional teams under tight reporting deadlines.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. The ideal candidate will possess a solid accounting foundation, demonstrating a strong interest and eagerness to develop advanced technical reporting expertise within a banking environment.
• Experience: While no specific years of experience are explicitly required, candidates are expected to have practical experience applying established accounting guidance and internal policies to recurring activities under appropriate supervision. This includes an understanding of how to support financial operations within a structured corporate setting.
• Skills:
1. Apply a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory requirements to all reporting activities, ensuring adherence and accuracy.
2. Provide direct support in the preparation and comprehensive review of critical financial and regulatory reports, including quarterly and annual SEC filings (Forms 10-Q and 10-K), Call Reports, and FR reports.
3. Actively assist with research into new accounting standards, contributing to the preparation of detailed draft technical accounting memoranda to document findings and implications.
4. Contribute to the rigorous documentation and testing processes for internal controls over financial reporting, supporting ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance initiatives.
5. Perform ad hoc analysis and provide robust reporting support to senior leadership, leveraging collaboration with cross-functional teams to gather, validate, and interpret complex financial data efficiently, especially under tight reporting deadlines.
