Financial Analyst I | Weill Cornell Medicine

The Tone:

This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate financial monitoring, analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of various departmental financial activities within the Surgery Finance unit.

• Mission: This person will be responsible for precise financial oversight, analysis, and reporting across departmental operations and restricted accounts, including sponsored program grants and clinical trials.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Forecasting & Planning: Develop financial forecasts and business plans, preparing prospective and retrospective financial analyses, and coordinating business plan development.
• Budget Management: Manage operating and capital budgets as needed, reviewing budget proposals for governmental, industry-based, and private funding initiatives.
• Model Design: Design complex, multilayered financial models to forecast profit/loss statements for faculty recruits, studies, new ventures, and routine department operations.
• Reporting & Analysis: Create routine and ad-hoc financial and management reports, investigating, explaining, and correcting discrepancies, variances, and deficits independently.
• Financial Tracking & Compliance: Track and record financial activity within enterprise financial systems, databases, and spreadsheets, while also educating faculty and staff on proper accounting procedures and auditing for compliance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or a Healthcare-related field.
• Experience: Approximately 2-3 years of progressive experience in administration or financial management.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications, experience designing and developing financial models, critical thinking and analytical skills, detail orientation, and superb organizational skills.
• Bonus: Accounting experience and/or experience within an academic medical center setting.
