Finance Specialist | City of Ann Arbor

The Tone:

What You’ll Actually Do
• Procurement Assistance: Assist in various procurement activities to ensure efficient and compliant acquisition processes.
• Financial Record Management: Support core accounting and auditing functions to maintain accurate and transparent financial records.
• Budgetary Contributions: Contribute to the development and execution of budget tasks to support the organization’s financial planning.
• Performance Reporting: Generate and analyze financial performance reports to inform stakeholders on fiscal health.
• Regulatory Analysis: Research relevant financial regulations and provide analytical support for strategic planning initiatives and decision-making processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required. The City of Ann Arbor values a strong foundation in finance or business administration, and will consider an alternative combination of education and experience that demonstrates equivalent knowledge and capabilities.
• Experience: No specific years of prior experience are strictly required for this role, however, the offer will be commensurate with relevant experience in financial support, accounting, or business operations. Preference will be given to candidates with municipal experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis, understanding of accounting principles, ability to support budget development, experience with financial performance reporting, and skills in researching and interpreting regulations.
• Bonus: A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or a closely related field is highly preferred. Additionally, knowledge of Grant regulations, specifically Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and familiarity with Public Procurement Practices are a plus.
