Director, Finance and Accounting Services | Mayo Clinic
The Tone:
This is a hybrid position at Mayo Clinic, located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for occasional on-site expectations based on business needs. Mayo Clinic is a multi-site, multi-specialty academic medical center that requires robust financial management. This role is the second in a series of four finance management positions, critical for assuring the integrity of financial and statistical data. It is essential for implementing internal controls, providing strategic direction, and directly impacting the institution’s financial performance and compliance.

• Mission: Assures the integrity of financial and statistical data, identifies and implements internal controls, and provides strategic direction for finance and accounting services to improve performance and ensure compliance.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), large accounting systems, grant management systems.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Ensure Data Integrity: Assures the integrity of financial and statistical data while providing direction for complex report and analysis content for significant institutional impact.
• Implement Controls & Compliance: Identifies, establishes, and implements internal controls to ensure a compliant environment, interpreting and applying accounting rules, fiscal policies, and regulations.
• Provide Strategic Leadership: Provides leadership in a team environment, participates in establishing the strategic direction of the department and work teams, and actively communicates information to institutional leadership.
• Drive Financial Performance: Identifies and implements strategies that lead to improved financial performance, preserving Mayo standards and minimizing financial and legal risks.
• Manage Teams & Develop Talent: Directs managers, reviews results of variable-sensitive business models, and is responsible for recruitment, development, and performance management within areas of responsibility, identifying potential future managers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of applicable accounting or finance experience. Director level, with an expert understanding of accounting and finance principles and practices.
• Experience: 10 years of applicable accounting or finance experience, with 7 years of management or leadership experience.
• Skills: Expert understanding of accounting and finance principles and practices; knowledge of institutional, clinical, financial, and administrative systems; solid knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA (active or inactive); Master’s degree in a business-related field; working knowledge of large accounting and/or grant management systems.
