Paid Intern | State of Missouri

The Tone:
This is a paid internship at the State of Missouri, located in Clay County (Liberty, MO). The State of Missouri’s Department of Social Services is a public service organization dedicated to partnering with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth, and move families toward self-sufficiency. This role is crucial in supporting at-risk children and families by providing direct paraprofessional services, offering guidance, and helping individuals navigate difficult circumstances to achieve safer, healthier, and more productive lives.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship

• Team: Department of Social Services – Children’s Division
• Mission: This person supports at-risk children and families by providing direct services, guidance, and access to resources to promote safety, permanency, and well-being.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Management: Maintain accurate and confidential client case files, correspondence, and information in both paper and electronic formats.
• Client Coaching: Provide paraprofessional services to coach clients, fostering a positive family unit that supports their case goals and plans.
• Parental Guidance: Offer instruction and guidance to parents regarding child development and effective child-rearing techniques.
• Life Skills Support: Assist families with daily living activities, including goal setting, planning, and developing other related skills to manage a home and basic life.
• Family Development: Support the development of parenting skills, stress management, crisis management, and safety networks to aid in the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. High School Diploma or GED, but currently pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree.
• Experience: No specific years required. Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and have access to transportation to perform field duties such as home visits, client transport, and meeting attendance.
• Skills: Case file management, client coaching, instructional guidance, strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving.
• Bonus: Excellent problem-solving and time management skills, excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, ability to travel throughout the State of Missouri as needed.
