Family Law Paralegal | The Maine Divorce Group

The Tone:
This is a hybrid position at The Maine Divorce Group, located in Kennebunk, Maine, US. What You’ll Actually Do
• Case Scheduling: Manages scheduling for court dates, mediations, client meetings, and critical case deadlines.
• Document Preparation: Prepares, drafts, and formats family law documents, including pleadings, motions, financial affidavits, and discovery requests/responses.
• Discovery Oversight: Manages discovery processes, including tracking deadlines, organizing document production, and maintaining case summaries.
• Client Interaction: Communicates with clients professionally and empathetically, including handling sensitive or high-conflict situations and de-escalating when appropriate.
• Legal Strategy Support: Supports attorneys in case preparation and execution of legal strategy through organization, documentation, and follow-through.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and successful completion of an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program (either an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies). Candidates should bring 2-3 years of dedicated experience working under an attorney specifically within a family law firm setting.
• Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a family law firm is essential, encompassing expertise with Mac Operating Systems and Google Suite, proficiency in CRM Database management, and proven legal research and legal writing skills. This includes practical experience in managing discovery processes, filing legal documents with courts (including eFiling systems), and coordinating service of process.
• Skills: Possesses strong time-management and organizational abilities to effectively manage multiple cases and deadlines. Demonstrates excellent communication skills, with the capacity to interact professionally and empathetically with clients, even in sensitive or high-conflict situations. Requires unwavering integrity and discretion when handling confidential matters, alongside the ability to work collaboratively with multiple attorneys and team members.
