Repairs & Maintenance Assistant | Hawaii State Archives
The Tone:
This is a full-time government role with the Department of Accounting & General Services, located in Hawaii. This department supports the essential public infrastructure of the state by overseeing the operations and maintenance of numerous public buildings, including schools. This role is crucial for ensuring that all repair and maintenance requests are efficiently received, coordinated, and executed, thereby contributing directly to the safety, functionality, and longevity of vital public spaces for the community.

• Mission: To receive, coordinate, and facilitate repair and maintenance services for public buildings and schools.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Coordination: Receive and coordinate all requests for the repair and maintenance of schools and other public buildings.
• Purchasing: Conduct informal bid purchasing for necessary supplies, materials, and services required in repairs and maintenance.
• Data Management: Maintain pertinent operating and fiscal data accurately related to repair and maintenance activities.
• General Support: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient facility operations and support.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from high school is required. Excess experience involving written record-keeping or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience: Two years of general work experience where the keeping of written records comprised a major or vital portion of the job responsibilities. Additionally, three years of progressively responsible work experience in one or a combination of: scheduling building construction/maintenance work, purchasing related materials/services, selling construction/maintenance materials/services, or estimating labor/material costs. Applicants must also demonstrate supervisory aptitude and possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
• Skills: Proficient in receiving and coordinating requests, recommending priorities, scheduling jobs, and estimating time, manpower, and materials. Capable of conducting purchasing by studying market conditions, selecting sources of supply, preparing purchase orders, and analyzing cost-price proposals. Skilled in maintaining operating and fiscal data, and preparing reports related to transactions and job status.
