Intern – Executive Offices | Port of San Diego

The Tone:
This is an in-person internship at the Port of San Diego, located in San Diego, CA. The Port provides hands-on experience within a C-Suite special district environment, offering a unique opportunity to gain insight into high-level public administration. This role is vital for supporting the executive office with administrative tasks, ensuring efficient daily operations, and offering the intern direct exposure to the Port’s leadership.

• Mission: Provide essential clerical and administrative support to the executive office, ensuring smooth executive-level operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Administrative Support: Perform various clerical and administrative tasks to support the executive office.
• Meeting Coordination: Coordinate meetings for the executive leadership team.
• Document Management: Proofread and format important documents for accuracy and presentation.
• Financial Tasks: Handle purchasing, coordinate travel arrangements, and reconcile expenses.
• Timecard Administration: Administer and manage timecards for the executive office staff.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Students currently enrolled as part-time (generally 6-11 units) or full-time (generally 12+ units) at an accredited college or university (Intern I). Graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited program leading to an advanced degree (Intern II Graduate) or doctoral degree (Intern II Doctorate) also qualify. Interns may continue working for up to two years following graduation, not exceeding 25 hours per week.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to perform clerical and administrative tasks, with an interest in gaining hands-on experience in a C-Suite special district environment, including daily interaction with leadership.
• Skills: Proficiency in meeting coordination, timecard administration, document proofreading and formatting, purchasing, travel coordination, and expense reconciling.
