Ticket Taker | Kalama School District

The Tone:
This is a seasonal position at the Kalama School District, located in Kalama, WA, spanning the academic year from September 2026 to May 2027. The Kalama School District provides comprehensive educational and extracurricular opportunities for its students, fostering a vibrant school community. This Ticket Taker role is integral to managing guest entry for approximately 70 extracurricular and athletic events annually, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and efficient experience for all attendees. It directly supports the smooth operation of school events, contributing to the overall success of district programs.

The TL;DR
• Role: Ticket Taker
• Type: Seasonal (September 2026 – May 2027), approximately 200 hours/year across 70 events; total weekly hours will not exceed 40.
• Location: In-person, Kalama, WA, primarily at the Kalama Middle/High Gym and Stadium.
• Pay: $18.88 – $21.52 hourly, dependent on experience.
• Team: Reports directly to the Athletic Director; 3-4 positions are available for this role.
• Mission: Ensure efficient, courteous, and accurate entry for attendees at school athletic and extra-curricular events, upholding ticket integrity and contributing to a positive guest experience.
• Tech Stack: Electronic card readers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Guest Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for event attendees, greeting all guests courteously and professionally to ensure a positive first impression.
• Event Preparation: Systematically prepare the ticket-taking station by arriving approximately one hour before each event’s scheduled start time, ensuring readiness for guest arrival.
• Ticket Verification: Meticulously verify the validity of all incoming tickets, confirming they correspond to the correct date and specific event, while actively protecting ticket integrity to prevent misuse.
• Transaction Processing: Accurately manage and reconcile cash transactions, in addition to proficiently operating and using electronic card readers for various payment methods.
• Staff Collaboration: Foster a cooperative environment by professionally collaborating with all members of the event staff, contributing to a cohesive team effort.
• Operational Efficiency: Demonstrate the ability to work quickly and maintain efficiency in processing guests, especially during high-volume periods, to minimize wait times and ensure smooth flow.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates for this role should possess the foundational ability to read and interpret essential documents, such as safety rules, and apply this understanding within the dynamic environment of a school district.
• Experience: While no specific years of prior experience are mandated, candidates must demonstrate an aptitude for accurately handling financial transactions, including cash reconciliation, and proficiency in using electronic card readers. A proven capability to perform duties quickly and efficiently during situations with high guest volume is also essential.
• Skills:
• Strong ability to meticulously read, understand, and consistently follow established safety rules and district regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling respectful and clear communication with administration, staff, students, and parents.
• Demonstrated aptitude for establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relations with students and staff members.
• Capacity to execute duties independently, coupled with the ability to communicate proactively regarding any operational needs or issues.
• A firm understanding and commitment to performing all duties in full awareness of the District’s specific requirements and Board policies.
