Estimating Intern | Aecon

• Mission: Assist in delivering accurate and timely cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects within a dynamic construction environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Development: Develop comprehensive benchmarking data by diligently searching for and accumulating historical estimate information, working with the integration team to feed the Estimating & Proposal (E&P) dashboard and Monthly Business Review (BMR) presentation.
• Document Analysis: Analyze various project documents, including specifications, proposals, and addendums, to accurately prepare for comprehensive project pricing.
• Proposal and Tender Support: Provide direct assistance with Request for Proposals (RFPs) and general contract tender submissions, along with supporting prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
• Cost Sourcing and Take-offs: Research and obtain competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors for project estimates, concurrently supporting the team in preparing accurate quantity take-offs from construction drawings.
• Bid Estimate Creation: Aid in creating detailed estimates for bid submissions, encompassing labor, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Civil, Construction, Electrical Engineering, or Business diploma/degree program.
• Experience: Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents, along with strong computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Project, and estimating software.
• Skills: Self-motivated with excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills, capable of working accurately and effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Bonus: Knowledge of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, job cost fundamentals, and basic accounting/reporting principles.
