Entry Level Engineer | Actalent

The Tone:
This is a contract-to-hire position at Actalent, primarily located in Tallahassee, FL, despite an initial listing as fully remote, with significant in-office presence and field work required. This role is vital for enhancing power distribution infrastructure across Florida, contributing to critical upgrades and storm hardening projects.

• Team: Reports to a Project Manager on the power team in Tampa.
• Mission: Enhance critical power distribution infrastructure and grid reliability across Florida through technical design and field assessments.
• Tech Stack: BOUD (Bentley Open Utility Designer), Smallworld, Maximo, Pole Load, AutoCAD, survey field data

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Assessments: Conduct site visits, visual inspections, precise measurements, photography, and detailed field report compilation.
• Engineering Design: Perform essential calculations and design work for projects such as cable replacement, overhead line relocation underground, reconductoring, and equipment replacement.
• Technical Analysis: Apply expertise in structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective measures in all design projects.
• Infrastructure Upgrades: Contribute to critical power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across Florida.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a four-year ABET accredited college or university. Early career engineer with demonstrated interest in Power, Energy, or Utilities.
• Experience: Ability to work in the field 50% of the time, predominantly in the Panhandle region. Proficiency in distribution design and power distribution concepts.
• Skills: Structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, coordination of protective measures, AutoCAD.
• Bonus: Basic knowledge of concepts within the electric utility industry, specifically primary and secondary distribution systems. Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. Ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and prepare recommendations. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, initiative, desire to learn, and good written and oral communication skills for customer interaction.
