Job Description

Join Actalent’s team as a Junior Level Engineer in Tallahassee, contributing to critical power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across Florida. This role offers a blend of hands-on field assessments and technical distribution design work, playing a vital part in enhancing the region’s power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field assessments, including site visits, visual inspections, precise measurements, photography, and the compilation of detailed field reports.
  • Perform essential engineering calculations and design work for projects involving:
    • Replacement of deteriorated cables.
    • Relocation of overhead lines underground.
    • Reconductoring of existing distribution lines.
    • Replacement of aging equipment.
  • Apply expertise in structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective measures in all design projects.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a four-year ABET accredited college or university.
  • Field Work: Ability to work in the field 50% of the time, predominantly in the Panhandle region.
  • Interest: Demonstrated interest in Power, Energy, or Utilities.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Proficiency in distribution design and power distribution concepts.
    • Knowledge of software and tools such as BOUD (Bentley Open Utility Designer), Smallworld, Maximo, Pole Load, AutoCAD, and survey field data.
    • Understanding of quality control principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience or basic knowledge of concepts within the electric utility industry, specifically primary and secondary distribution systems.
  • Engineering Fundamentals: Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and prepare/present recommendations effectively.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, initiative, and a strong desire to learn.
  • Communication: Good written and oral communication skills for frequent customer interaction.

Work Environment

While the job is listed as “fully remote,” the description indicates primary work in the Tallahassee office and field work in the Panhandle. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this temporary role is $27.00 – $27.00/hr.
