Job Description: Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program: Software Engineering
This is an opportunity for emerging technologists to gain practical, hands-on experience in software engineering through Citizens’ Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program. This program is crucial within Enterprise Technology & Security Services, aiming to provide passionate early career professionals with real-world exposure to groundbreaking technology.
Software Engineer Track Overview:
Software Engineer Interns will work collaboratively with experienced Software Engineers on a wide range of initiatives. The role leverages technical skills and a drive for innovation to help develop cutting-edge Middleware technologies and support various solutions within the company’s consumer banking applications.
Key Responsibilities of the Software Engineer Intern:
• Design and Implementation: Assist in the design, modification, definition, and implementation of technology solutions, focusing on building modern, architecturally sound components, tools, and applications to achieve strategic business objectives.
• Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in an Agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating effectively with team members.
• API Development: Contribute to building APIs that support multiple data formats and ensure easy integration with other systems.
• Documentation and Reporting: Research and gather documentation to maintain the quality of user documentation and create progress reports.
• System Improvement: Enhance system quality by identifying issues and common patterns, then developing standard operating procedures.
• Application Enhancement: Identify opportunities for application improvements, make recommendations, and design and implement necessary system changes.
Internship Program Details:
• Start Date: The program officially begins in late May 2026.
• Duration: This is a 10-week program.
• Learning and Development: Interns will gain a strong understanding of the Software Engineer role at Citizens. The program also provides mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and participation in various activities designed to develop professional skills.
• Orientation: Includes an orientation session with all Enterprise Technology & Security interns.
• Professional Development Workshops: Examples include “Personal Branding” and “Communicating with Impact.”
• Social Activities: Interns can participate in events like sporting activities and a bank-wide intern BBQ.
• Community Service: Dedicated community service activities are also part of the program.
Career Path After the Program:
High-performing interns who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career within Enterprise Technology & Security may receive an offer to return as a Full-time colleague in the Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program (ETSDP) upon graduation. The ETSDP is a full-time program designed to help rising professionals build a meaningful career in areas such as software, network/systems, data, or cloud engineering, as well as technology risk and security.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
• Video Interview: Successfully complete a video interview assessment within 4 days of receiving the link. Failure to complete within this timeframe will result in automatic withdrawal of the application.
• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or other technology-related degree.
• Graduation Date: Expected graduation date of May 2027.
• GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Programming Skills: Solid understanding of one or more of the following:
• Programming Languages: Java, JavaScript, C, Python, .Net, Node
• Data Formats: SQL
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment; good interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous Experience: Professional exposure to software development and/or engineering.
• CI/CD Experience: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CircleCI, Jenkins, or equivalent).
• Cloud Experience: Experience with AWS/AZURE/GCP.
• Industry Knowledge: Understanding of the banking industry, particularly the functions of custodial and consumer banking.
