Structural Intern | Walter P Moore

The Tone:
This is an internship at Walter P Moore, located in San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Diego, Chicago, or Denver. Walter P Moore is an international company comprised of over 1000 engineers, architects, innovators, and creative professionals dedicated to solving some of the world’s most complex structural and infrastructure challenges. The company delivers structural, diagnostics, civil, traffic, parking, transportation, enclosure, WPM technology, and construction engineering services, designing cost- and resource-efficient solutions that actively support and shape communities worldwide. As a Structural Intern, you will significantly expand your structural engineering education by actively participating on diverse architectural project teams and contributing directly to the design of great structures.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time (minimum 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling)
• Location: In-person, San Francisco, NYC, LA, Wash. DC, San Diego, Chicago, Denver
• Pay: $23-$38.40 hourly
• Team: Structural engineering group, participating on architectural project teams
• Mission: Contribute to the design of various architectural projects by applying and developing structural engineering knowledge.

• Project Collaboration: Participate actively on project teams, contributing to architectural projects spanning commercial, sports, healthcare, and public assembly buildings.
• Educational Expansion: Broaden your understanding and practical application of structural engineering principles through the dedicated internship program.
• Professional Development: Engage with and benefit from the company’s in-house staff development program.
• Design Contribution: Apply your engineering knowledge to help meet the challenges of designing significant structures.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing or having completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 24 hours of engineering coursework successfully completed. You must either be accepted into, or plan to apply for, a graduate program in Civil Engineering with a specialized structural emphasis.
• Experience: This internship does not require prior professional experience in years; instead, we seek individuals with a sound technical foundation and a genuine enthusiasm for tackling the intricate challenges involved in designing significant structures.
• Skills:
• A demonstrable sound technical background in core engineering principles.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, enabling clear interaction within project teams.
• Excellent written communication skills, essential for effective documentation and reporting.
• A strong enthusiasm for engaging with the complexities and demands of designing innovative and robust structures.
• Bonus: EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification is a preferred qualification.
