NextGen Software Engineer | Johnson Controls

The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site rotational engineering training program at Johnson Controls, a global leader committed to creating smarter, healthier, and more sustainable buildings and communities. The 18-month program offers comprehensive hands-on experience through 3-4 rotational assignments across engineering and business functions. Participants will apply their skills to real-world projects, engage with industry experts, and contribute to meaningful impact, all within an inclusive culture driven by integrity, teamwork, and innovation. This role provides a strong foundation for early-career engineers to understand Johnson Controls’ operations and technology.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Complete: Structured rotational assignments across engineering, operations, product development, and other key functions to gain broad business exposure.
• Apply: Technical and business skills to real-world projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges and drive tangible impact.
• Develop: Problem-solving, communication, and leadership capabilities through mentorship and coaching from senior leaders and technical experts.
• Contribute: To the successful and timely completion of projects, providing regular status updates, and delivering a final capstone project.
• Work & Travel: On-site at assigned Johnson Controls facilities, including completing rotations that require extended stays at other U.S. locations and undertaking domestic or international travel for training and collaboration.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Career level: Entry-Level. Must possess the legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Experience: Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability for rotational assignments across various functions, teams, and US locations, including relocation. Experience in school, work, community involvement, internships, or co-ops showing a passion for learning, growth, and leadership.
• Skills: Strong communication and collaboration abilities, including explaining technical concepts and working effectively toward common goals. Proficiency in organizing and analyzing data to solve multidimensional problems. Demonstrated proficiency using AI tools and technologies.
