About OW Lee:

OW Lee is a leading manufacturer of high-end outdoor furniture and fire pits. They are seeking an intern for their engineering department at their manufacturing facility in Comfort, TX.

Job Description: Engineering Intern

This is an on-site internship supporting OW Lee’s process improvement initiatives within their manufacturing operations. The intern will play a key role in enhancing efficiency and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Process Observation and Documentation: The intern will observe workers in various departments (fabrication, finishing, assembly, etc.) using video recording to capture their tasks. Detailed data including time, date, worker, and task must be meticulously documented.
Data Entry and Analysis: Collected data will be entered into spreadsheets or provided templates. The intern will then analyze this data to identify areas for improvement.
Collaboration and Communication: The intern will collaborate with department managers, leads, and workers to gather data and gain a thorough understanding of processes. This involves conducting interviews and actively participating in discussions.
Problem Solving and Reporting: The intern will assist in identifying and resolving operational issues and prepare reports presenting findings and recommendations to management.
General Support: The intern will complete assigned tasks and work the required hours to meet OW Lee’s objectives and may be assigned other related duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be a sophomore (or above) with a strong GPA in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
Skills: A working knowledge of lean principles and manufacturing processes is beneficial, but not required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) is a must. The candidate should possess strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Attention to detail is paramount.
Experience: Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a manufacturing environment with potentially warm conditions is necessary. The intern must be available to work during manufacturing floor production hours (4:30 am to 3:00 pm).

Requirements Summary:

Education: College Sophomore (or higher) with a strong GPA in a relevant major (Business, Engineering, etc.)
Skills: Strong communication (written and verbal), collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Understanding of Lean principles is a plus.
Other: Ability to work independently, in warm conditions, and during specified hours. Authorization to access information from various sources (schools, employers, etc.) for background checks is required (as per the included authorization form).
