Administrative Leader Fellowship | Southeast Hospital

The Tone:
This is a full-time fellowship at Mercy, a comprehensive healthcare system with opportunities available across multiple locations, including Mercy Hospital St Louis in Chesterfield, Missouri, and Mercy Southeast in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mercy operates a healing ministry, committed to bringing compassionate care and exceptional service to its communities. This Administrative Leader Fellowship is a critical program designed to provide recent master’s-level graduates with an immersive experience, accelerating their advancement into leadership roles and enabling them to directly influence strategic initiatives and shape the future of healthcare delivery within the organization.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-time
• Location: In-person at Mercy Hospital St Louis in Chesterfield, MO, with additional opportunities available across Mercy’s regional healthcare system, including Northwest Arkansas, Oklahoma City, Springfield, St. Louis Metro Area (Mercy South and Mercy Washington), and Cape Girardeau, MO.
• Team: Works with senior leaders across Mercy’s healthcare system, learning through direct mentorship and project collaboration.
• Mission: Accelerate advancement into leadership roles within healthcare administration and shape the future of healthcare delivery through strategic engagement.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Skill Development: Work on key assignments specifically designed to develop fundamental business acumen and essential leadership skills during your first year, with the clear goal of accelerating your advancement into a leadership position.
• Strategic Engagement: Engage directly in high-impact projects and strategic initiatives, providing opportunities to contribute to system-wide improvements and organizational goals across various administrative functions.
• Executive Mentorship: Participate in a structured mentorship program with senior leaders throughout Mercy’s extensive healthcare system, gaining invaluable insights into executive decision-making, organizational strategy, and leadership principles.
• Operational Immersion: Gain hands-on experience in critical decision-making processes, directly contributing to organizational leadership and supporting system-wide initiatives that actively shape the future of healthcare delivery.
• Functional Exposure: Receive comprehensive and focused exposure to key administrative areas, including Hospital and Clinic Operations, overarching Strategy, Finance, Human Resources management, and Innovation, providing a holistic view of healthcare administration.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a recent master’s degree, such as a Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or another closely related field, signifying a readiness for an early career leadership path.
• Experience: Demonstrate clear leadership potential, proven strategic thinking capabilities, and strong communication skills. Prior experience in healthcare settings, consulting roles, project management, or administrative internships is highly valued for success in this immersive program.
• Skills: Exhibit robust strategic thinking abilities necessary to contribute meaningfully to organizational direction and initiative planning. Possess strong communication skills for effective collaboration, presentation, and engagement with diverse stakeholders and senior leadership.
