Electrical Engineering Intern | City of St. Charles

This role is a vital part of the municipal electric utility’s engineering office, offering diverse opportunities to expand professional knowledge and skills in electric engineering within a progressive community.

The TL;DR

• Location: St Charles, IL (On-site)
• Pay: $20 hourly
• Team: Reports to the Public Works Manager – Electric
• Mission: Support the municipal electric utility’s engineering office to ensure the health, safety, and connection of the St. Charles community.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Word, Excel, CAD drafting methods and equipment

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Design & Construction: Support capital improvement projects by preparing construction documents and interpreting designs and specifications.
• Field Inspection: Perform site inspections of construction projects, measure quantities, and generate reports, cost estimates, and payouts.
• Asset Management: Collect, verify, and document assets in the field, and manage engineering calculations, records, and drawings.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate utility investigations, engage with contractors, and assist in resolving resident concerns and requests.
• Administrative Support: Conduct research, prepare various reports, and perform essential office tasks like scanning and filing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student for Fall of 2026, pursuing a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
• Experience: Possess a base knowledge of electrical utilities, be at least 18 years of age, and hold a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
• Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to make complex calculations, prepare and interpret plans/drawings/single-line diagrams, and provide professional customer service.
• Bonus: Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and CAD drafting methods and equipment is preferred.
