Early Professional Overhead Transmission Line Engineer | WSP

• Mission: To provide technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of overhead transmission line projects and systems, ensuring quality, safety, and functionality.
• Tech Stack: Electronic systems, drawings, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Assist with the design, development, and construction of overhead transmission line projects, including new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources like physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, and GIS for project development, design, and construction.
• Technical Support: Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality.
• Documentation: Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs.
• Compliance & Safety: Comply with safety guidelines, site-specific procedures, WSP’s Code of Conduct, and relevant civil construction laws, codes, and regulations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience, familiarity with design/build processes, and an understanding of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
• Skills: Excellent research and analytical mindset; competent interpersonal and communication skills; proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization; ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Bonus: Engineer in Training Certification; Minimum 2.75 GPA; Coursework in structural mechanics, vibration analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design, and surveying; Previous engineering design or drafting work experience (especially civil/structural); Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS); Prior engineering internship; Active participation in professional practice organizations.
