Early Career Structural Engineer (Renewables) | WSP
The Tone:
This is an early career structural engineer position at WSP, primarily located in Cottonwood Heights, UT, with other potential locations including Boise, ID, Billings, MT, Houston, TX, Boulder, CO, and Denver, CO. WSP is a leading professional services firm providing world-class expertise in power delivery, power generation, and project management, following its acquisition of POWER Engineers, Inc. This role contributes to the design and construction of load-bearing structures for power and energy projects, ensuring safety, structural soundness, and functionality while assisting a growing team in meeting client objectives and solving challenges.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
• Compliance Assurance: Perform basic professional structural engineering work, conducting research and inspections of site conditions to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
• Technical Support: Provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure.
• Structural Verification: Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance to secure structural soundness from environmental or human-induced loads and pressures.
• Documentation Generation: Generate complete, accurate, and concise project documentation using electronic systems, drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and work site notebook/logs.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, for an early career role.
• Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience. Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build, and relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, and regulations.
• Skills: Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset, competent interpersonal and communication skills, proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and basic proficiency with technical writing and office software.
• Bonus: Engineer in Training Certification, prior internship related to the degree and specific engineering discipline, and active participation in local professional practice organizations.
