Early Career Mineral Processing Engineer | WSP

This is an early career, full-time position at WSP, located in Lakewood, CO, South Jordan, Utah, or Tucson, Arizona. This role is essential for supporting the design and development of mineral processing plants, contributing to the recovery of critical commodities like copper, gold, and industrial minerals, and ensuring projects meet high standards of quality and safety.

• Mission: Support the process development, research, design, and analysis of mineral processing plants for various commodity recoveries.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Contribute to basic process development, research, concept development, and design for mineral processing plants.
• Analyze: Assist with preliminary design calculations and analysis for the recovery of various commodities.
• Prepare: Support the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Document: Generate accurate and concise records for assigned project aspects, including collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Ensure: Deliver all project responsibilities with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering with an anticipated graduation date no later than May 2026; early career engineers will be considered.
• Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Skills: Demonstrated interest in extractive metallurgical process engineering; excellent research skills with an analytical mindset; competent interpersonal and communication skills; proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization; basic proficiency with technical writing and office automation.
• Bonus: Engineer in Training Certification (or ability to obtain within a year of hire); prior internship related to the degree of study; active participation in local professional practice organizations; experience in process design, material and energy balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), cost estimation (CAPEX/OPEX), or capital budgeting (ROI/IRR/NPV); exposure to a wide range of process operations (e.g., crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, solvent extraction).
