Early Career Field Construction Engineer | WSP

• Mission: This role supports construction management projects by ensuring field work conforms to plans and specifications, maintaining project documentation, and assisting with office engineering duties to meet client objectives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Documentation: Review and update project schedules and record drawings, and maintain comprehensive logs of contract documents for reference and compliance.
• Field Supervision Assistance: Assist with various construction field work tasks and activities to ensure strict conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Office Engineering Support: Perform diverse office engineer duties including reviewing material submittals, taking detailed meeting minutes, processing contractors’ pay estimates, and responding to Request for Information (RFIs).
• Document Analysis: Read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications, actively identifying any discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
• Problem Resolution: Consult with the Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommending solutions, assisting in issue resolution, and acting as a liaison with the engineer of record.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. This is an early career position requiring foundational knowledge in engineering or construction.
• Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience, complemented by prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
• Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills, with a detail-oriented approach to producing quality work products. Valid Illinois Driver’s license is required.
• Bonus: Experience with Office Engineering duties on large construction projects. E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification, experience with Labor Compliance and verification of Certified Payrolls, and familiarity with e-builder software are preferred.
