Director of Community Affairs | Microsoft

The Tone:
This is a full-time, senior leadership role at Microsoft, located in Redmond, Washington. This role is crucial for strengthening the company’s long-term trust, credibility, and positive impact throughout Washington State by leading its community investment and philanthropic initiatives.

• Mission: Strengthen Microsoft’s long-term trust, credibility, and impact across Washington State through strategic community investment and engagement.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Philanthropy Strategy: Lead Microsoft’s Washington State philanthropic strategy, execution, and community relations, specifically focusing on housing, human services, arts, culture, and civic life.
• Community Leadership: Build and steward deep, trusted relationships with a diverse portfolio of priority nonprofit organizations, philanthropy groups, and community leaders across the Puget Sound region and Washington State.
• Visibility & Storytelling: Design and execute high-visibility moments, including site visits, signature events, and executive engagements, that effectively showcase Microsoft’s community contributions and partnership impact.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner closely with Government Affairs to connect Microsoft’s policy and advocacy priorities to specific nonprofit engagements, and collaborate with Employee Engagement to mobilize employee resources for community support.
• Program Management: Oversee program budgets, manage vendor and partner relationships, allocate resources, and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards for grant performance and community sentiment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree with experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR), philanthropies, corporate affairs, government affairs, business and international development, or a related area.
• Experience: 6+ years of work experience in a related field, including 4+ years managing a corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, or community affairs program at scale, and 3+ years of people or team management experience.
• Skills: Demonstrated success achieving corporate outcomes through the design and operation of CSR programs, including grantmaking, diligence, and impact measurement, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive-level presence.
• Bonus: Deep, trusted relationships with nonprofit organizations and community leaders in the Puget Sound region, a strong understanding of the Washington State nonprofit ecosystem, and familiarity with corporate responsibility, philanthropic partnerships, and ESG principles.
