What You’ll Actually Do
• Vehicle Movement: Safely move heavy-duty vehicles into and out of the yard, wash bay, service shop, or deliver them to rental shops.
• Fueling & Washing: Fuel various diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and record all fuel activity while maintaining proper DEF and fuel inventories using handheld devices.
• Pre-Service Inspections: Perform thorough multi-point inspections on inbound units, checking tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, and refrigeration units, then report any identified service or driver issues.
• Shop Maintenance: Uphold Six Sigma standards for the fuel island area and execute minor facility maintenance and other assigned tasks as directed by the supervisor.
• Technical Training: Actively participate in and successfully complete all aspects of the Technician Training Development Program, encompassing hands-on experience and online modules covering service island, preventive maintenance, and advanced technician skills.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level role requiring candidates to be 18 years of age or older. Successful applicants must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire, pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and a comprehensive background check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers.
• Experience: No prior mechanical experience is required for this trainee position, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals beginning their career path in diesel mechanics. Zero to one year of mechanical experience, particularly with diesel engines, is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in English for both written and verbal communication, demonstrated customer service capabilities, the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, strong time management skills, and a proven track record of personal accountability. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with a Microsoft Office environment, are also necessary.
• Bonus: A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred. Candidates with a strong technical aptitude, an ability to quickly troubleshoot problems, beginner-level knowledge of machines, tools, and shop management systems, and a valid Class A CDL are highly valued.
