Damage Prevention Technician I | Zayo Group
The Tone:
This is an entry-level, full-time field role at Zayo Group, located in the Phoenix, AZ metro area. Zayo provides mission-critical bandwidth to the world’s most impactful companies, fueling innovations that are transforming our society through its 141,000-mile network. This role is a vital part of Zayo’s Damage Prevention Team, essential for protecting Zayo’s infrastructure by accurately locating and marking utilities, acting as the first line of defense in preventing damages and ensuring safety during excavation and construction activities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Blueprint Analysis: Analyze blueprints to pinpoint where construction projects are planned.
• Utility Mapping: Identify and map the precise location and depth of fiber optic cables and other underground utilities.
• Data Documentation: Document all site information, utility locations, and client interactions within organizational software.
• Utility Measurement: Measure utilities utilizing diverse techniques, including electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and radar.
• Network Integrity: Proactively identify potential problem areas to safeguard the network’s integrity and company assets.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High school diploma or equivalent required, with a basic understanding of underground installations.
• Experience: Up to 1 year of relevant experience in field construction tasks.
• Skills: Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows operating system, and Office applications. Ability to operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call out, dispatch, and overtime. Must be able to maintain eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle and regularly lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Bonus: Previous experience with utility locating and fiber optic cable builds.
