• Team: Reports to Norfolk Naval Shipyard (occasional night or weekend work required)
• Mission: Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within assigned facilities to ensure buildings are orderly, functional, and welcoming.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Sanitation and Cleaning: Systematically clean and sanitize all restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene. This also includes cleaning windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, and various fixtures throughout the facilities.
• Floor Maintenance: Execute comprehensive floor care, ranging from daily tasks like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting to specialized, scheduled maintenance such as buffing, spot cleaning, stripping, waxing, shampooing, and extraction cleaning for carpets.
• Waste and Supply Management: Efficiently manage waste by emptying trash and recycling bins and ensuring proper disposal. Regularly restock all necessary restroom and facility supplies, including soap, paper towels, and tissue, to maintain constant availability.
• Operational Adherence and Reporting: Diligently follow established cleaning schedules and checklists, while also maintaining all cleaning equipment and supplies in good working order. Promptly report any observed maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns to ensure timely resolution.
• Support Services: Provide support for various facility needs, including assisting with event setup and cleanup activities, and undertaking special projects as required to meet operational demands.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates are required to hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, previous commercial custodial or janitorial experience is a fundamental prerequisite for successful execution of the role’s responsibilities.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience includes a thorough knowledge of various cleaning chemicals and the safe handling procedures necessary for their use. This practical understanding ensures a secure and effective cleaning process.
• Skills: A critical skill for this position is the ability to competently operate a range of cleaning equipment, which encompasses items such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and auto scrubbers, to maintain facility standards.
