Job Description: Culinary Internship/Externship Opportunity

SusieCakes offers a hands-on internship or externship program specifically designed to meet culinary program requirements. This semester-long program aims to help participants develop their skills while providing opportunities to connect with the Executive Team. It offers valuable insight into the business operations of a successful bakery.

Important Notes:
• Housing is not provided for this program.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a baking & pastry program or a culinary-focused certification program.

The intern/extern will assist in culinary operations, working alongside other culinary team members to manage and produce a variety of baked goods.

Responsibilities:
• Manage production and prepare a wide variety of standard and custom baked goods according to recipes.
• Mix, bake, build, decorate, and inscribe products efficiently, as applicable.
• Ensure all food is prepared, handled, and stored according to all required food safety code standards.
• Operate and maintain bakery equipment.

Qualifications:
• One year of previous culinary experience (pastry/baking experience strongly preferred).
• Ability to work in cross-functional roles, including front of house & back of house, as needed.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:
• Frequent walking, kneeling, bending, and reaching overhead.
• Able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to taste products for quality assurance (e.g., buttercreams, cakes, cupcakes/batter, cookie dough, and other recipes as assigned).

Education:
• Culinary degree preferred.
• High school diploma or GED.

Language Skills:
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.

Other:
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
