Criminal Information Specialist | State of Utah

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Utah Department of Corrections, located in Salt Lake City. The Department of Corrections is a dedicated team of professionals focused on ensuring public safety by effectively managing offenders and collaborating with partner agencies. This role is crucial for the accurate and efficient management of offender records, intake and release processes, and documentation, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and state statutes. It acts as a vital liaison between the Department of Corrections, Board of Pardons and Parole, courts, and other government agencies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Facilitate: Manage the intake and release processes for offenders, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.
• Verify: Confirm charges on court documentation and ensure all signed board warrants are correctly filed.
• Coordinate: Partner with internal and external agencies to obtain necessary documentation, correct errors, and uphold legal compliance.
• Communicate: Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries via email and phone calls from Department of Corrections employees, other state agencies, and the public.
• Maintain: Regularly audit records for accuracy and completeness, updating and preserving records within various databases.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Core domain knowledge includes criminal justice documentation, state statutes, and legal compliance related to offender management.
• Experience: Proficiency in databases and case management systems such as O-Track, UDOCA, UCJIS, or similar systems is required. Occasional after-hours and weekend availability may be necessary.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and the ability to collaborate in a team setting.
• Bonus: Experience in a judicial or law enforcement role is preferred. Familiarity with specific criminal justice documentation, including Judgment and Commitment documents, board warrants, and sentence calculations, is also ideal.
