The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Axon, located in Scottsdale, AZ, with a hybrid work schedule requiring 4 days in-office per week. Axon builds an ecosystem of devices and cloud software, driven by a mission to protect life and address critical safety and justice issues. As a Cost Accountant, you will be a key financial analyst at the intersection of finance and operations, providing the precision needed to scale Axon’s global manufacturing. Your work directly shapes how the company understands and manages the cost of bringing life-saving technology to market.

• Mission: This person owns month-end close activities, drives inventory and variance analysis, and partners with operations leaders to understand and manage the cost of life-saving technology.
• Tech Stack: ERP system (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar), Excel, AI analytics tools.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Month-End Close: Own month-end close activities for cost accounting, preparing and posting journal entries including accruals, reserves, reclassifications, and allocations across multiple business segments and legal entities.
• Inventory Management: Lead inventory reserve management by reviewing and maintaining excess and obsolescence reserves, producing summary reports, and supporting inventory reconciliation activities including raw material to WIP movements.
• Variance Analysis: Drive cost variance analysis by monitoring and analyzing purchase price, production, and quantity variances, identifying root causes, and communicating findings clearly to business partners and leadership.
• Standard Costing: Support standard cost processes, assisting with ERP system uploads, managing monthly bill-of-materials (BOM) reviews, setting up new SKUs, and continuously monitoring variances.
• Reporting & Compliance: Prepare management reporting packages by collecting and analyzing cost data, ensuring GAAP compliance, performing account reconciliations, and supporting SOX testing and audit readiness.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: 3+ years in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, or supply chain finance, preferably in a high-growth or operationally complex environment.
• Skills: Solid GAAP foundation with hands-on experience in inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and financial close processes; proficiency in a major ERP system for cost accounting functions; strong analytical and detail-oriented approach to large datasets; advanced Excel skills.
• Bonus: CPA or CMA in progress or completed; experience with AI analytics tools.
