The TL;DR

• Mission: To develop a basic understanding of Smurfit Westrock’s safety programs, policies, and procedures through real-world experience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Exposure: Gain familiarity with Smurfit Westrock’s diverse product portfolio.
• Experience: Engage directly with the wide range of safety functions and responsibilities typical of a Safety Leader in a manufacturing setting.
• Networking: Participate in organized career networking events to connect with professionals.

• Development: Develop a foundational understanding of Smurfit Westrock’s safety programs, policies, and procedures.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental, Health & Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, or another science field. Early Career.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required. Demonstrated willingness to strictly adhere to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment. Readiness to work around moving or heavy equipment within hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environments.
• Skills: Understanding of occupational safety & health principles, industrial hygiene practices, fire safety / hazardous materials management, ergonomics, systems safety / process safety, environmental safety, and emergency preparedness.
• Bonus: Currently a rising Junior or Senior undergraduate student.
